CORPORATE INTERIOR
The Brief for this project was to liaise with the building developer on our clients behalf to ensure that the design of the building and the interior layouts met their objectives with regards to aesthetic and functional requirements.
The operational requirements of the client were assessed along with staffing dynamics.
A flexibility of spatial arrangement was essential to allow for future growth in staff numbers. This was achieved by opting for an open plan general office area with moveable freestanding screens. Team Managers, CEO and General Managers were provided with individual offices positioned so that they had a direct visual and physical link to their teams.
The penetration of natural light into all work areas was also a prerequisite. This was made possible by the careful placement of windows, clerestory glazing and internal glazed office partitions allowing borrowed light to filter through into the open plan spaces and corridors. Generally office areas were kept light and breezy with colour added to screens to define individual spaces and give an impression of solidity, stability and privacy.
The interior aesthetic was to be sophisticated, with a contemporary corporate feel. Special attention to detail was focused on the public areas. These included the main entrance, reception/waiting area, interview room and boardroom.
A large double height entry space has an immediate impact on visitors. The glazed entry along with strategically placed landscape windows allow for sufficient natural light to penetrate the space during business hours, and also frame views to the foothills and adjacent native reserve.
The reception joinery was designed to reflect the exterior forms and lines of the architecture. A dark metallic curved wall extending full height behind the reception area references the coastal context of the project and also functions as a perceived barrier to visitors, separating the public spaces from staff areas. Colours and finishes were kept simple and honest.
Light neutral lacquers paired with rich dark-stained timber veneer added subtle depth and luxurious-ness to the cabinetry. Essentially the internal spaces act as restrained, functional backdrops to the day-to-day activities taking place within. The arrangement and design of the interior spaces enhance the office environment and the experiences of the people whom work with in them.
The intention was that the interior should evolve with the buildings occupants, it should be contemporary yet timeless in style and have the flexibility to adapt to future trends. It will be interesting to see if this proves to be true in future years, for now the interior fit-out has met all of the clients objectives and expectations.
