FRONT ROOM CAFE

The owners of The Front Room cafe at Waikanae Beach approached SPACE in mid 2004 to review the front of house area in their popular beach cafe.

The brief was to design a new bar and service counter to replace an existing run-down unit, along with associated lighting and fittings. The new counter design needed to provide for a variety of functions from beverage service, to till operation and customer service, storage and casual bar seating. 

Our clients desired an aesthetic with contemporary lines combined with a mix of materials to reflect the beach location as well as provide durability and serviceability.

The resulting design is a simple, clean solution. A mix of light plywood and dark formica provide robust durable working surfaces and contrast against each other to add interest to the counter. The new unit provides adequately for all it's required functions and has injected a contemporary bach-like feel into the cafe interior.
