GUSTO
Located on Jackson Street, Petone, GUSTO opened in December 07. It is a Bistro catering to the discerning foodie.....
Our young clients had been searching for the right location and premises on Jackson Street for almost two years when this property became available. Previously an indian restaurant extensive remedial and fit-out work was required to restore the interior to its former glory.
The building, built in 1935 by Edmund Anscombe, is listed as an historic building and as such physical alterations to the building were tightly restricted.
The design brief was to work with the original features of the building enhancing through colour and texture along with integrating a new front of house/beverage service and reception area. Careful planning was undertaken to ensure the requirements for the front of house area and reception desk could be accommodated adequately in a particularly restrictive space without becoming the dominating feature and without restricting the necessary service flows of staff and the required seating capacities for the restaurant.
The resulting concept is a stylish bistro. A sympathetic and versatile design which enhances the existing historical features of the building whilst adding depth and drama through the addition of carefully chosen contemporary elements.
The rejuvenation of the existing timber panelling to the main dining room, timber floors, windows, doors and ceiling detail is further enhanced with the addition of the dark stained timber panelled joinery of the front of house and reception areas. A rich colour palette consisting of warm neutrals and deep coloured patterned wallpaper add further richness and playful contemporary elements. Light fittings reminiscent of the 1950's and 1960's add another layer to the interior aesthetic.
Light and casual during the day turns to rich and luxurious at night.
